How training works: blended online + on-site practical

Your operations keep running. We cycle through your operators one at a time, so you never have to shut down a shift or pull your whole crew off the floor for training.

1. Online theory

Each operator completes the theory on a computer, tablet or phone, when it suits your schedule. Quizzes along the way and a final exam at the end confirm what they’ve learned.

2. On-site practical training

Our trainer comes to your site and works with one operator at a time on your equipment, while the rest of your crew keeps working. We schedule it once your operators have finished the online theory.

3. Practical evaluation

Each operator is evaluated on inspection and operating skills on your equipment before a certificate is issued.

4. Digital certificate

Every operator who passes gets a certificate on a free digital wallet card. Pull it up online any time and forward it to a contractor, a Workplace Safety and Health officer, or anyone who needs proof your operators are trained.

Boom Lift Certification FAQ

Do I need a boom lift licence in Manitoba?

Yes, but it’s called a boom lift operator certificate, not a licence. Manitoba employers can’t let anyone run an aerial work platform until that worker has been trained, tested and certified. People often call it a boom lift ticket.

How do I get boom lift certified in Winnipeg?

Your employer books training with us, we come to your workplace, and each operator completes online theory, then hands-on practice on your boom lift and a practical evaluation. Operators who pass are certified the same day.

How much does boom lift training cost?

$325 for one operator, $225 per operator for 2–7, $1,795 for a group of 8–10, and $175 for each operator over 10. Scissor lift and boom lift together (Aerial Lifts Combined) is $350 per operator. Travel fees apply outside the Winnipeg Perimeter Highway.

Can we combine boom lift and scissor lift training?

Yes. Aerial Lifts Combined certifies your operators on both in one visit for $350 per operator, which saves $100 compared with booking them separately.

Do you train outside Winnipeg?

Yes. We train across Manitoba and in Northwestern Ontario. Travel fees apply outside the Winnipeg Perimeter Highway.

Is boom lift training the same as MEWP training?

Yes. MEWP stands for mobile elevating work platform. It’s the term the CSA B354 standards and safety officers use for boom lifts and other aerial lifts. You may also see AWP (aerial work platform) on older paperwork. Our boom lift certification covers the MEWP training requirements for the boom lifts your operators use.

How long is a boom lift certificate good for?

Three years. After that, or after an incident or a change in equipment, operators need recertification.

Do operators need fall protection in a boom lift?

Yes. Boom lift operators wear a full-body harness tied off to the platform’s anchor point. Our Aerial Lift Fall Protection add-on covers this during the practical.

Do you cover fall protection?

Yes, two ways. The Aerial Lift Fall Protection add-on (+$100 per operator) covers harness use and tie-off on the lift and is done during the practical. It is not a full fall protection certification. If your operators need full fall protection certification, we offer the complete course at your site for $270 per operator.

Do you offer boom lift recertification?

Yes. We recertify operators on site. Experienced operators get training matched to their level, so it moves faster than a first-time course.

What standard does your training follow?

Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health regulations and the CSA B354 standards for mobile elevating work platforms (aerial work platforms), with ANSI practices where they apply.

Boom lifts we certify

Articulating (knuckle), telescopic (stick) and towable booms. The regulations and CSA standards call these mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). Scissor lifts have their own course, or certify on both with Aerial Lifts Combined.

New and experienced operators

New operators get the full program. Experienced operators get training matched to their level, focused on fixing bad habits. Operators coming back after an incident get training built around what happened.

Boom lift recertification

Boom lift certification is good for three years. We recertify operators on site, and we can also combine online theory with an on-site practical evaluation.
